If you are new to juicing, the best centrifugal juicer (fast juicer) is a great appliance. It’s fast, convenient, and easy to use. In addition, the investment is not as steep as other types of juicers.

So, how do you choose the right one?  When comparing centrifugal juicers, you'll want to consider the size, power, ease of use and maintenance, noise level, and price. Our buying guide covers these factors along with our top picks for your consideration.

Factors to Consider When Buying a Centrifugal Juicer

When trying to select the right centrifugal juicer, there are several important factors to take into account. First, consider the juicer’s size and the sizes of its main components – chute, juice pitcher, and pulp container.

Centrifugal juicers tend to be noisier than masticating juicer machines. Ease of use and power are also important.

Although leafy greens can be juiced, the results are hardly comparable to a masticating juicer designed to handle leafy greens.

Finally, for most of us, price is a factor in our buying decisions.

The size of the juicer might play an important role, especially if you have a small kitchen and a crowded kitchen counter. Aside from that, the size of the juicer generally depends on your needs. If you’re going to make small quantities of juice once or twice a day, a small juicer might fit the bill. However, if you have a large family and need a lot of juice, a bigger model might be in order.

The size of the food chute is important, as well. If you opt for a model with a narrow chute, you’ll have to cut up all but the smallest ingredients you intend to use. However, many models have 3” wide chutes that can take at least 1/2 an apple (some can handle a medium-sized apple) and similarly sized fruits.

If you intend to make juice in large quantities and don’t want to stop every couple of minutes to empty the pulp container, a model with a big container is convenient. Many models, even those in the budget and intermediate classes, have 2-3L pulp bins.

Finally, the size of the juice pitcher, if one is included in the package, is another feature to consider. Commonly, the pitchers are 750ml to 1L and up. Some big juicers have even bigger pitchers.

Here, the choice probably depends on the quantities of juice you need. If you’re only making juice for yourself, a small pitcher might be acceptable. However, if you’re making juice for the entire family, go with a bigger pitcher.

Noise Levels

Centrifugal juicers are among the loudest kitchen appliances. That’s due to their high-rpm motors. Generally, the faster the motor spins, the louder it gets. Likewise, more powerful motors tend to produce more decibels.

If you want to make the juice early in the morning as the rest of the family sleeps, you should go with a quieter model. On the downside, you might have to sacrifice some power, and you might have to settle for a smaller pitcher and pulp container.

On the other hand, if the noise is not a problem and you need plenty of power, go for a big juicer with a powerful motor.

Ease of Use

A good centrifugal juicer should be easy to use. A juicer should be user-friendly, simple to assemble and disassemble, and easy to clean and maintain.

Simple operation means you can juice fruits and veggies without having to read complex user manuals. Controls should be intuitive, straightforward, and conveniently positioned.

A simple assembly is where all the moving parts, including the containers and pitcher, can be attached and removed within seconds.

The power of the juicer is another aspect to consider before making the final decision. Generally, you’ll need at least 400 watts to juice tough ingredients. The vast majority of today’s models check this box. Popular centrifugal juicers sit in the 700-1,000-watt range. There are more powerful models, of course.

When considering the power of the motor, there are a couple of things to keep in mind. More powerful models tend to make more noise, especially on cheaper juicers. A powerful and silent juicer is usually more expensive.

On the other hand, juicers with stronger motors give you more options. They are simply better at juicing hard and pulpy ingredients.

The speed of many centrifugal juicers can be adjusted. Usually, there are two rpm settings that you can change depending on the ingredients. Some models might have more speed settings.

Last but certainly not least is the price of the juicer. Bigger juicers with more power and juicing capacity tend to have higher price tags.

If you’re serious about juicing and intend to use your juicer a lot, then you might want to opt for a more expensive juicer that’s made of high-quality components and comes with all the bells and whistles. On the other hand, if you want to see whether juicing is beneficial and fits into your lifestyle and available time, an affordable juicer might be your best bet.

Reviews of the Best Centrifugal Juicers

Breville BJE830BSS Juice Fountain Cold XL - Best High-End Centrifugal Juicer

The Breville BJE830BSS Juice Fountain Cold XL is a high-end juicer that utilizes Breville's proprietary “Cold Spin Technology.” This design allows the juice to flow up to the spout and through the cutting disc surrounded by a mesh filter.  Breville claims the temperature transfer is less than 1.8°F, thus reducing heat exposure.

This juicer is best for juicing hard, thick fruits and vegetables. If the juice is sealed in the airtight container and placed in the refrigerator immediately after juicing, its shelf life can be extended up to 72 hours.

  • Durable solid metal body & BPA-free
  • Large 3.5” feeding chute – less prepping required
  • 3 speed modes
  • Overheating protection
  • Storage container with froth separator included

  • Expensive for a centrifugal juicer
  • Short warranty (1 year)
  • Not ideal for ginger, turmeric, or leafy greens

The Breville BJE830BSS has a powerful 1200 Watt motor. Three speeds are offered: Quiet, Fast, and Boost. The user manual has a table that correlates the type of produce with the preferred setting.

Breville states on their website the Cold Spin Technology ensures an insignificant temperature increase during juicing.

The Breville Juice Fountain Cold XL is well designed and manufactured with high-quality materials. This brushed stainless steel unit has a titanium reinforced cutting disc, a stainless steel filter basket, and an Italian-made micro-mesh filter. The polymer plastic parts that contact the food (parts of the top cover, the pusher, the juice jug, and the pulp collector) are BPA-free.

The feed chute is 3.5” wide, allowing you to juice whole produce, cutting down the prep time.

An interlocking safety arm stops the juicer from operating without the cover locked into place.

Another safety feature protects the Breville BJE830BSS from overheating. The machine switches off if it recognizes there is overheating. If this happens, the machine should be unplugged and not be used for at least 30 minutes so it can cool.

What's Included

  • Large pulp container
  • Juice jug, lid, and froth separator - 70 fl. oz.
  • Juicing nozzle
  • Juice cover
  • Stainless steel filter basket
  • Food Pusher
  • Nylon cleaning brush

Final Thoughts

The Breville BJE830BSS Juice Fountain Cold XL is our selection for the best high-end centrifugal juicer. It is a sturdy and fast juicer that is said to produce little heat while juicing. The extra-wide chute is advantageous since it reduces the preparation time. The “Quiet” setting is a convenient feature that reduces the noise by up to 40% (per Breville).

The frothing separator is a welcome feature since centrifugal juicers typically produce quite a bit of foam. The included juicing nozzle that can be placed over the juicer spout is handy if you want the juice to be placed directly into a cup instead of the juice jug.

If you plan to drink more than one glass of green juice once in a while, one of the better masticating juicers is a better long-term investment.

The motor on this Breville JE98XL delivers 850W of power, which is halfway between the Breville Compact BJE200XL at 700W and Breville Juice Fountain Elite 800JEXL at 1,000W.

It is a two-speed motor. The low setting intended for softer fruits and veggies works at 6,500 rpm, while the high setting spins the motor at a respectable 12,000 rpm.

The housing of the JE98XL is made of plastic. It has an extra-wide food chute that measures 3” in diameter. That means you’ll be able to put peeled oranges and apples in it, as well as other large fruits and veggies.

What's Included

  • Large pulp container - 2.6 qt
  • Juice pitcher and cover - 1.1 qt
  • Juice cover
  • Nutri Disc(TM)
  • Food Pusher
  • Nylon bristle cleaning brush

Final Thoughts

We recently bought a Breville JE98XLand are pleased with it. For a centrifugal juicer in this price range, it is a good value.

This juicer is great for soft veggies and fruits on the lower setting, while the higher setting is great for apples, carrots, celery, and beets. The wide food chute makes the whole juice preparation process faster and easier. The heavy-duty metal parts round off this excellent juicer.

My only complaint about it is, the pulp is relatively wet. If I have time, I usually put it through the juicer to increase the juice yield.

The  pitcher might be too small for making large quantities of juice at a time.

Cleaning Breville Juicers

These Breville juicers can be hand washed in about 5 minutes. Cleaning the parts immediately after juicing prevents pulp drying and discoloration on the plastic parts.

The filter basket requires the most care. Immediately after juicing, soak the cutting disc in hot soapy water for about ten minutes. Then carefully wash the disc using the nylon brush included with your juicer. This will help keep the blade sharp prevent the pores of the fine filter mesh from becoming clogged. The last step is to dry the basket thoroughly.

Although the stainless steel filter basket, pulp holder, and the juice jug and lid are dishwasher safe when placed on the top rack, it’s better to immediately clean them by hand after use to prevent pulp from drying on them. If you put a plastic bag in the pulp collector, you only have to rinse it out.

The motor, food pusher, and juice cover are not dishwasher safe.

  • On the noisy side

The Cuisinart CJE1000 is built around a powerful 1,000-watt motor. It has five-speed settings, which you can change depending on the ingredients you’re using. You should use the slowest two settings for leafy greens and soft veggies, while pineapples and beets should be processed at the highest settings.

The body of the juicer is made of a die-cast metal base and a plastic lid. The lid also contains the 3” food chute. You can easily detach the cover when you want to clean the juicer.

The juicer has a large and removable pulp collector. It is made of the same plastic as the juicer cover and has the capacity of 2 liters. The pitcher is a 1-liter plastic container. All parts that come in contact with food and liquid are BPA free.

This Cuisinart juicer also features a handy control knob with a blue LED light indicator. You can rotate it to select the desired speed. The juicer doesn’t start working until you press it. You can turn it off with another press of the button.

What's Included

  • Large pulp container - 2 liters

  • Juice cover
  • Stainless steel micro-mesh filter basket
  • Filter bowl

However, it is best to at least rinse all the parts immediately after use. The filter basket should be soaked for 10 minutes after use, thoroughly cleaned, and dried.

Final Thoughts

The Cuisinart CJE1000 Die-Cast Juice Extractor is a great value that features a 5-speed motor, a large pulp container, and a die-cast housing. It is easy to disassemble and clean, with plastic components being dishwasher-friendly. It is simple to use and operate and fast.

One drawback is that the CJE1000 is somewhat noisy.

We bought this juicer on January 31, 2016, and my son still uses it weekly to make carrot and apple juice. I recently purchased the Breville 98JEXL and use it twice a week. It makes less noise than the CJE1000.

Centrifugal Juicer FAQ

What is a centrifugal juicer?

A centrifugal juicer is a juicer with a rotational motor. The motor spins the cutter disc that cuts the food fed through the chute. Below the cutting disc is a metal mesh filter. After the filter, the juice flows into the pitcher. The pulp would get routed to the pulp container.

Centrifugal juicers use high rpm to cut and juice the fruit and veggies quickly and efficiently. Many currently available models take only seconds to juice an apple or a beetroot. They are way faster than slow juicers.

How to choose the best centrifugal juicer for you

The main things to consider when choosing a centrifugal juicer are the size of the juicer, food chute width, pitcher size, and pulp container size. You should also consider the motor's power, the quality of the blade, and the number of speed settings into account. Finally, you may want to consider the noise, how easy it is to clean and maintain, the price tag.

Why are centrifugal juicers good for those new to juicing?

If you are beginning to juice, they are great because you can buy an inexpensive one to see how much you use it and if the time and effort you put into juicing is worth it.

Their best feature is they have a good price to performance ratio and are less expensive than other juicers.

With all the considerable advantages, centrifugal juicers are noisier than masticating and twin great juicers. They are not as efficient at juicing leafy greens as a masticating juicer.

How to clean a centrifugal juicer

Before cleaning, make sure the juicer is turned off and the power cord is unplugged. Next, remove all the removable parts, including the lid with the food chute. Use the cleaning brush to scrub the moving parts while rinsing them in the kitchen sink.

After that, you should put the removable plastic parts in the dishwasher. Many centrifugal juicers have plastic parts that can be washed on the top shelf of the dishwasher.

What you can and can’t juice with it

Thanks to their high-rev motors, centrifugal juicers are particularly great at harder ingredients, such as pineapples, carrots, beetroots, and apples. However, centrifugal juicers can also work with softer ingredients such as melons, cantaloupes, and tomatoes at slower speeds.

While not as efficient as masticating juicers, centrifugal juicers can also work with leafy greens at lower rpm. However, you can’t use your centrifugal juicer for baby food, butter, fruit sorbets, sauces, and pates – things that masticating juicers can handle.
