Are you thinking about buying a new double burner induction cooktop? If so, there are many factors to consider such as size, power, voltage, burner size, temperature range, and portability.
The critical feature to consider when deciding what double induction cooktop to choose is whether you want a portable unit or a drop-in cooktop.
Factors to Consider Before Buying a Portable Double Induction Burner
Portable or Drop-in Unit
There are three types of double induction cooktops: 1) portable 2) drop-in, and 3) a unit that can be used on the countertop or installed in a cutout in the countertop.
A portable induction cooktop is versatile since it can be placed anywhere on the countertop with easy access to an electrical outlet. It can be stored in a cabinet. They can be taken to social events, on vacation, used as an extra burner, and depending upon the model can be used outside in a dry environment.
If you live in a small space or in a rental unit that doesn't have a full-size stove, a double portable induction cooktop is a great option. They are also useful if you need extra burners for a social occasion or if you are preparing several dishes simultaneously.
A drop-in unit is limited to a fixed position. The counter inset will be installed in a specific place in the kitchen and will remain there.
Since portable induction cooktops are freestanding, they can be taken from the box and placed on the table or countertop. Built-in units need to be installed. If you don't have the skill set to install the unit, then it's best to hire a qualified person to install the cooktop.
Before purchasing your double burner induction cooktop, take accurate measurements at the places where you plan to use your unit. The user manual usually specifies the number of inches of air space above and on all sides for air circulation (some say 2-4 inches or 4-6 inches).
If you have children or pets, then a unit that with a settings lock provides one less thing to be concerned about while you are cooking.
An automatic shutoff feature is non-negotiable for some folks. Most units shut off after two or three hours.
Although most units have overheating protection and low/high voltage warning, check to make sure.
Some user manuals (Cuisinart, Ovente) specifically say their cooktops are not to be used outdoors. The manual for the Duxtop 9620LS states it is not to be used in a "wet outdoor environment".

The power level relates to wattage generated by the cooktop. You'll want to check the total maximum power of the unit and the wattage for each burner.
Most double induction burners have shared heating capacity which means when both burners are being used, the power is divided. Some product descriptions and reviews refer to this as power sharing technology.
Each burner has a different maximum wattage. For example, the Duxtop 9620LS has a maximum power of 1800W. (left is 1800W and right is 1000). The left burner has a maximum wattage of 1800 Watts and the right burner maximum power is 1000.
Even though most portable double residential cooktops require 120V, check the manual for the electrical requirements.
The Temperature Mode is usually used when a specific cooking temperature is required. Double burner induction cooktops typically have good temperature control.
Not all units have a temperature function. For example, Cuisinart ICT-60 has levels that correlate to a specific wattage. The wattage is NOT displayed. The upside to this unit is that it is very easy to operate.
Since the temperature sensor is under the ceramic and does not touch the base of the cooking vessel, temperature readouts in all induction cooktops are approximations.
Check the size of the burners on the double induction cooktops as they are not always the same size on a particular unit. One burner may be smaller than the other one.
You'll want to match your cooking needs with the settings/modes offered. For example, if you are cooking steak on an induction cooktop in a cast iron pan, you'll want to use between medium and high temperature on your induction cooktop.
There are many advantages to having an induction cooker, but one drawback is that you can only use certain types of pots and pans with the cooker.
Although it may seem annoying at first, if you know what materials are induction compatible then you won't have a problem. If the base of the pan contains bare or enameled cast iron, carbon steel, graniteware, and magnetized stainless steel then they will work with induction cooktops.
It is very easy to test if your cookware will work. Take a kitchen magnet and place it on the bottom of the cooking vessel, if it strongly sticks then you can use it with your induction cooker.
An induction cooktop can only operate (transfer of heat) if there is direct contact between the surface of the stove and the base of the pot or pan. Therefore, the base should be flat and free of dings and dents.
Most aluminum and copper cookware won't work with induction cookers as the base usually doesn't have any iron compounds. However, if there is an iron core in the base, then it might work but it isn't guaranteed. The iron core may not be large enough.
For best results, place the pot or pan in the center of the placement guide.

Duxtop 9620LS LCD Portable Double Induction Cooktop
The first of our induction cooktop reviews is the Duxtop 9620LS Double Induction Cooktop. This was added to the Secura produce line in late 2018.
This 1800 watt double induction cooktop is designed to be used on the countertop.
The black crystal glass cooking surface has two independent heating zones with each burner having their own LCD display and sensor touch control panel.
- 20 temperature settings with a range of 100-460°F
- The pre-set temperatures are in 20 degree increments from 100 to 360°F and then temperatures of 375, 390, 405, 420, 440, and 460°F.
- 20 power levels from 100W - 1800W
- The maximum power of the left burner is 1800W and the right is 1000W.
- The right burner cannot be used if the left burner is set to 1500W or above because the right burner has to have 400 Watts available to operate.
How Duxtop 9620LS Power Sharing Works
When using both burners, the combined power available for the Duxtop 9620LS is 1800 Watts. If both burners are used at the same time, the cooktop self-adjusts so that the total power level will not be above 1800W. As an example, if the left burner is set at 1200 Watts, the right burner will self-adjust to 600 Watts.
However, it is important to note that when both burners are being used, the wattage on the right burner has to be 400W or above. For example, the left burner cannot be used at 1600W while the right one is set at 200W.
The user manual has a chart that correlates setting and wattage and shows power distribution settings when both burners are being used. Since power cycling occurs in the .5 to 4.5 settings, the wattage shown is an average number of watts.

Secura provides a limited two-year warranty (from date of purchase) for the original purchaser of the unit. It only covers defects in workmanship and materials under normal use and service and the unit must be purchased from an authorized reseller/distributor or directly from the manufacturer. It is not covered if it is used in a commercial or institutional establishment.
To file a warranty claim, email Secura customer service with the product name and model number, pictures of the defect, proof of purchase, and contact information. The consumer is responsible for shipping costs if Secura wants to inspect the product.
Inducto Dual Burner Induction Cooktop
The Inducto Dual Induction Cooktop is an 1800 Watt portable double portable induction cooktop with a one piece ceramic glass top. Each burner has its own control panel LED touchscreen controls that can be quickly changed.
The power is shared between two burners. This model has heat (power) and temperature modes and a built in timer for each burner.
- 8 power levels for each burner
- The preset power levels are: 200W, 400W, 600W, 900W, 1200W, 1400W, 1600W,1800W.
- 8 temperature levels with a range of 176°F to 460°F *
- The preset temperatures are: 176°F, 212°F, 260°F, 300°F, 350°F, 390°F, 425°F, 460°F.
- If you are using temperature settings on both burners, the maximum total temperature is 600°F.
How Inducto Dual Burner Power Sharing Works
The burners split wattage between the left and right side. Both burners can be used at 1800 Watts, although not simultaneously as the power consumption is automatically balanced.
- Power sharing works in this manner: if one burner is set at 2, the other side will automatically adjust to level 6.

Inducto Customer Care realizes they have incorrect information on their website regarding the number of cooking modes. The temperatures listed are indeed correct.

NutriChef Portable Dual 120V Electric Induction Cooker
The NutriChef PKSTIND48 Double Induction Cooktop is an 1800 Watt unit with multiple cooking modes. It too has a control panel for each burner.
This cooktop operates differently from the other induction cooktops we reviewed.
This NutriChef model has three manual cooking modes and an automatic control function: Warm. Once the manual mode is selected, one of the eight temperature presets can be chosen. The Warm mode only operates at 140°F.
There is NOT an option to select power levels.
- Manual functions: Fry, Steam, Water
- Automatic control function: Warm, The default temperature of the Warm setting is 140°F. This cannot be changed.
- 8 temperature levels from 140°F to 460°F
- Temperature presets: 140, 210, 260, 300, 350, 390, 430, 460°F
How the Nutrichef Induction Cooktop Works
1. Select one of the Functions: Fry, Steam, Water, and Warm.
2. If you select Fry, Steam, or Water function, you can choose from one of eight PRESET levels.
These PRESET levels are: 140, 210, 260, 300, 350, 390, 430, 460°F
3. If you select the Warm function, it only operates at the default temperature of 140°F.
The total maximum temperature for this double cooktop is 460°F.
If both burners are used simultaneously, the maximum temperature on each burner is 230°F. (per PyleAudio - NutriChef telephone customer service).
- The timer can be set after the cooking mode is selected. The maximum time when using the Fry or Water functions is 4 hours.

Cuisinart ICT-60 Double Induction Cooktop
- The left burner has eight settings with levels 1 to 8 with a power range of 200-1200W.
- The right burner has five settings with levels 1 to 5 with a power range of 200-600W.
- Since this is an 1800W unit, both burners can be used at the maximum power setting simultaneously.
- The wattage is NOT shown, nor is the temperature, only the power level.

- The individual timers can be adjusted up to 150 minutes by pressing and holding the up arrow.
- If the food has been cooking for 30 minutes, the timer can be set for up to 150 minutes since it will shut off after 180 minutes.
- The burners are different sizes. I wrote Cuisinart asking for the diameter of each burner and will update if I receive a reply.
- Cuisinart offers a three-year limited warranty on this induction hob. It is best to register the product at cuisinart dot com as soon as you recieve the cooktop. If you need warranty service call cuisinart (number is in the instruction booklet). If you have to send it to them, you are responsible for the shipping costs to cuisinart and are required to enclose a check or money order for $10 to cover the return shipping costs. The coverage for California residents is different and is explained in the instruction book.
- The unit will automatically shut off after 180 minutes.
- If the power is switched on, and no cookware is on the cooking surface, the unit will beep and turn off after 30 seconds.
- If the cookware placed on the cooktop is not induction compatible, the unit will beep and automatically turn off after 30 seconds.
- If you remove cookware from the cooktop surface while cooking, the unit will beep and automatically turn off after 30 seconds.

Steps to Using a Portable Induction Cooktop
We use the Duxtop 9600LS single burner induction cooktop in our home daily. The most important thing to remember is they heat quickly. Therefore, it is best to prepare your ingredients and have your plates, pan, and utensils ready before switching on the cooktop.
Be sure to carefully place (not slide) the compatible cookware on the cooktop to avoid scratching or cracking the ceramic-glass surface.
- Place the unit on a flat, non-metal surface, and plug it into an electrical outlet.
- Gently put your cooking vessel in the center of the placement guides.
- Power the unit on and press the menu button
- Adjust the power or temperature level and timer. Activate lock (optional).
- When finished cooking, take the pan off the surface, and turn the unit off.
- When the fan has stopped running, unplug the unit.
- When the surface cools, clean the cooktop.
Since the heating mechanism of an induction cooktop is different from gas or electric cooktop, there is a learning curve. It might take a couple of times with each recipe to get the heat levels just right. However, the heat is easier to control and is more precise than with a gas stove.
When using an induction cooktop, the heat distribution is constant and even. Since the temperature increase or decrease takes effect rapidly, it is easy to overcook a dish you have been preparing for years.
When preparing the first several meals on my new induction cooktop, I started with a lower power setting than called for in the recipe and gradually increased it as needed.
Practice Using an Induction Cooktop
It is a good idea to cook foods that are easy to make when using your cooktop the first few times. We listed eggs first because whether you scramble them or make an omelet, you’ll see how fast they cook. You’ve probably read articles and reviews where this is mentioned, but it’s best to see how quickly food cooks firsthand.
1. Eggs: You can cook any style of eggs, from scrambled to fried to poached. Boiled eggs are easier to peel if they are a week or two old.
2. Pancakes: Pancakes cook evenly, and if not overmixed, they are light and fluffy. You can follow your favorite recipe, but make sure to heat the pan first and observe the pancakes because they cook quickly.
3. Rice: Rice cooks evenly throughout and stays light and fluffy. Three parts water to 2 parts rice is a good starting point to get soft fluffy rice.
Before you starting cooking, refer to your recipe and determine the power or temperature setting you will need. As always, have everything prepared ahead of time. You can follow the recipe you’ve used in the past. The heat setting and cooking time are the variables.

Meal Ideas for Induction Cooking
Induction cooktops can be used for more than boiling water and making eggs. They can be used for preparing main meals and side dishes. Here are ideas for foods that can be made using an induction cooktop.
Breakfast: Eggs, crepes, bacon, pancakes, ham and zucchini frittata, and stuffed French toast
Lunch and Dinner: Mac and cheese, turkey minestrone, sloppy joe filling, grilled cheese, chicken noodle soup, grilled cheese sandwich, black beans and rice
Dinner: Chicken cacciatore, cheese fondue, Swedish meatballs, gravy, and noodles, pasta with spinach and tomatoes, lemon thyme chicken with peppers, blackened salmon, crab cakes with dill and capers.

How do induction cooktops work?
Induction cooktops have a different heating mechanism than gas or electric cooktops. They use electromagnetic energy to heat your pots and pans directly. This is different from electric and gas cooktops, where pans are indirectly heated through a heating element below the cooktop surface.
Induction cooktops heat pans quickly and are energy efficient since they don’t waste energy during the cooking process as with gas or electric heating. The temperature can be quickly increased or decreased.
The surface stays cool while you are cooking, and they are easy to clean. There is a lower risk of fire, and given the lack of flame, there is a reduced risk of burns.
The pots and pans need to be made with a bottom made with a ferromagnetic material, such as magnetic stainless steel, carbon steel, or cast iron. It is best to use a flat, smooth cooking vessel on an induction cooktop.
An induction cooktop has a coil of copper wire that lies under the ceramic plate of the cooktop. When you use a pan that is made of a ferromagnetic substance, an alternating electric current is passed. The magnetic fields induce a magnetic flux, which produces an eddy current in the pot. This heats the cooking vessel.
As you can see, induction cooking is much different than gas or electric cooking methods. The cooking vessel generates the cooking heat when an induction cooktop is used. Gas or electric stoves generate heat which is then transferred to the pot or pan.
