Breville JE98XL Features

This juicer is referred to as the Breville Juice Fountain Plus or as the Breville JE98XL.

Speed

This Breville juicer comes with an 850W dual-speed motor. It has overload protection that helps extend the life of the motor; you will notice something is wrong when the red LED is on.

The JE98XL has two speed settings - low and high. The low should be used for soft fruits and leafy vegetables, while the high setting is used for juicing hard produce.

The rotations per minute (RPM) of each of these settings are not disclosed in the Breville user manual or specification sheet. We emailed Breville on October 28, 2021, asking for the RPMs of the low and high settings. This article will be updated with their response.

Construction

One of the best features is the stainless steel cutting disc. It’s sharp and sturdy, which means that it can handle root vegetables. Just keep in mind that the juice extraction ratio will go down with the hardness of the ingredients.

The stainless steel micro-mesh filter basket does a reasonable good job of keeping the pulp out of your morning juice. As far as performance goes, it should take no more than 5 seconds to fill up an 8-oz. cup with juice – that’s if you’re using a moderate amount of root vegetables and focus more heavily on fruits or leafy greens.

A lot of people appreciate the extra-wide feed chute. Its 3” width means you should be able to fit some whole fruits and veggies without much hassle. However, sometimes prep work will be necessary if you want to maximize the juice extraction.

A safety locking arm ensures the machine operates only if the cover is locked into place.

This juicer fits in with any kitchen decor. The polymer body has a stylish design and shiny finish.

Who is the Breville JE98XL For?

The Breville JE98XL Juice Fountain Plus is a reliable juicer. Its ability to produce large quantities of juices makes it a bargain for singles, couples, or families.

Although you can juice leafy vegetables with this unit, the yield is not very good. Therefore, if you plan to juice leafy vegetables more than once or twice a week, you are better off buying a masticating juicer such as the Omega J8006HDS

How to Use the Juice Fountain Plus

We use the Breville JE98XL Juice Fountain Plus at least twice a week. It is straightforward to assemble and use.

The high speed is used for hard produce, and the low speed is for soft fruits and leafy greens.

Even though the chute is wide, we cut apples, beets, and other hard produce to prevent the motor from overheating. Although this is not required, we rinse the filter basket once or twice when we juice five pounds of carrots.

There is a lot of pulp when juicing carrots. Here is additional information on what to do with the leftover pulp.

Cleaning the JE98XL

The following parts are dishwasher safe if placed in the upper rack, filter bowl, juice pitcher and its cover, and pulp container. The juicer cover (large plastic cover that goes over the filter basket) and pusher should not be placed in the dishwasher.

After juicing, soaking the filter basket in warm water for a few minutes will save time cleaning it. After you have finished drinking your juice, you can then scrub it with the nylon brush included with the juicer. Then you can either put it in the top rack of the dishwasher or finish handwashing it.

Final Thoughts

The Breville JE98XL Juice Fountain Plus has all the makings of a fine juicer. It can quickly fill your glass daily, and it has a very efficient nutrient extraction process too.

To top it all off, it’s an affordable juicer by a high-end brand. However, if you would like to explore other options, our reviews and comparisons of the best centrifugal juicers might be of interest (the JE98XL is included in this list).
